An obligation to vote

SENTINEL-REVIEW STAFF We?re all well aware of just how much impact municipal government has on our day-to-day lives. From the roads we travel on our daily commutes to the water we use to wash our clothes, those services are provided by ? and decided on ? by our local municipal governments. But despite this impact, voter turnout in municipal elections is often abysmal. It?s surprising the level of government that provides our most immediate needs is the one that garners our least concern. That should change. On Oct. 27, every voter in Woodstock and Oxford County has an obligation to use those roads to take a trip to the polls and cast a vote for the next four years. Every mayor, deputy mayor, councillor and school board trustee in our region has a critically important role to play ? and, of course, each will vote on every issue before their respective councils. Those decisions will have an attendant influence on future municipal budgets ? budgets that will be paid by the residents of the Woodstock and Oxford County region.
